Gold
The metal that has proliferated countless legends and has sent men on various quests is also the most widely used metal in jewelry. Gold, whose atomic symbol is Au, is naturally yellow in color and is also extremely malleable, making it ideal for jewelry and other decorative crafts. Like silver, gold in its pure form is too soft for practical use, so it is also alloyed with other metals. The purity of gold is usually indicated by a 14K or 18K mark. Pure gold is denoted as 24K or 24 karats. 14K and 18K, then, are 14 out of 24 parts pure (58.33% pure) or 18 out of 24 parts pure (75% pure), respectively. The price of gold tends to fluctuate since the economy influences gold prices. Aside from this, karatage, gram weight and the labor performed on the gold determines its price.
Gold has been known to be alloyed with several different metals to produce a variety of shades. For example, gold is alloyed with whiter metals like palladium and nickel to create white gold. It is then rhodium plated to achieve its bright sheen. Rose gold, on the other hand, is mixed with copper to achieve a pinkish glow. While much of gold jewelry is manufactured by machine, we at Bacci Diamonds pride ourselves in creating unique handcrafted pieces, ensuring the highest quality in our products.
